FIALKA – A rare "advertising" postcard of the hamlet called Fialka from the early twentieth century. If you thought the romantic name "Fialka" (Violet) came from the flower, you would be mistaken — the hamlet came to bear that name after Jozef Fiala (*1844), the mayor of Malé Přítočno, who on 24 September 1881 received permission to build a tavern. (The locals should therefore be celebrating the 140th anniversary of the hamlet's founding this year.) At the turn of the century the inn was leased by a Mr Hustoles, and after him by many others.

Mr Fiala purchased land in the Unhošť cadastral district and built a tavern there, complete with a popular skittle alley. Because the inn stood on the busy Karlovy Vary road and close to Unhošť railway station, it never lacked for guests, and moreover it attracted further settlers, so that Fialka gradually grew by several more houses.

Unfortunately, construction of the motorway means you will no longer find this picturesque corner. Today's Fialka is filling up with industrial premises — you can see for yourself via Mapy.cz Panorama or Google Street View: bit.ly/2Rondk5
