KLADNO – There was a time when sports included truly Cimrman-esque disciplines such as the standing jump or the cube throw. Yet even the 100-yard dash seems peculiar today.

This race was held on 16 August 1908 in Kladno, at the SK Kladno sports ground — now a fire station — as part of the Athletics Meeting for the Cup of the magazine Sport a hry (Sport and Games).

According to the book "The First Half-Century of Kladno Athletics", which we warmly recommend, 1908 is indeed the year in which organised track and field athletics began in Kladno.

But back to the running race: second place in this event was taken by an athlete named Duchek, who received this very silver medal. By what winding paths it eventually came to us, we shall never know.
